ESPN shared a long list of potential College Football Playoff contenders earlier this week.
The list was put together by ESPN Analytics and includes all 32 teams who have at least a 10% chance to make the CFP, per the model’s preseason projections. Of those 32 teams, 11 hail from the SEC. Here’s a full breakdown of the SEC teams who were included:
(1) Texas | 89.3%
(2) Georgia | 78.6%
(4) Alabama | 66.2%
(10) Tennessee | 38.5%
(11) Texas A&M | 34.3%
(12) Ole Miss | 30.7%
(13) LSU | 30.3%
(18) Auburn | 21.8%
(22) South Carolina | 20.3%
(23) Oklahoma | 18.4%
(25) Florida | 14.5%
The only SEC teams who didn’t make the cut were Mizzou, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
Texas leads the way with an 89.3% chance to make the College Football Playoff — the best mark of any team in the country entering the season. Georgia is not far behind at 78.6%. Alabama is the only other SEC team with better than 50/50 odds to reach the Playoff.

With 11 contenders, the SEC has an extremely deep conference this season. A number of these teams would be making the Playoff for the first time ever should they accomplish that feat in 2025. Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Auburn, South Carolina and Florida have never made the CFP before.
The 2025 regular season will begin later this month.
