The Big 12 made headlines Wednesday when news broke that the conference had issued a “cease and desist” letter to its television partner ESPN.

In the letter, the Big 12 said that ESPN had taken actions that would harm the Big 12 while financially benefitting ESPN. The Big 12 called on ESPN to stop communicating with the Big 12 Conference’s existing members or any NCAA conference regarding the Big 12 conference’s members, possible conference realignment or potential financial incentive or outcomes related to possible conference realignment.

In the letter, the Big 12 demanded ESPN respond by noon central time Thursday. ESPN has already issued a response to media outlets.

“The claims in the letter have no merit,” ESPN says in its response.
