Will the next Heisman Trophy winner come from the SEC? That’s unlikely if you put much stock in ESPN’s Heisman Trophy watch expert poll.
According to the results of the preseason poll, which can be found here, the only names on the list from the SEC are Drew Lock and Tua Tagovailoa — and they rank 10th and 11th, respectively. Stanford running back Bryce Love is the current leader in the poll with Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor ranking second. Houston defensive lineman Ed Oliver rounds out the top three.
To formulate the list, ESPN polled 10 college football writers and asked them to vote for their top five selections for the award. Lock earned two fourth-place votes and Tua secured a single fourth-place vote.
