Could Week 10’s game between Tennessee and Oklahoma be a College Football Playoff eliminator?

Both teams come into the contest at 6-2. The Sooners, who already have some ground to make up after losing to Ole Miss, have No. 4 Alabama, No. 19 Mizzou, and LSU coming up on their schedule. The Volunteers have just one ranked team remaining after Saturday — No. 9 Vanderbilt — along with New Mexico State and Florida.

ESPN’s FPI has predicted the outcome of the matchup, and Tennessee has been given a 63.3% chance to win.

The Vols, the nation’s second-best scoring offense at 45.6 points per game, have scored at least 34 points in every game this season. They face a Sooners team that’s allowed just 12.5 points per game, 5th-best in FBS. Oklahoma, though, allowed 34 points to Ole Miss in Week 9, the most it’s given up in 2025.

Defensively, the Vols have struggled. Kentucky, which had scored 24 points or fewer in all but six of its games going into Week 9, put up 34 against a Tennessee team that has yielded 30.9 points an outing, second-highest in the SEC. Wildcats quarterback Cutter Boley threw for 330 yards and 5 touchdowns, both career highs.

Meanwhile, the Sooners will be looking for a bounce-back performance from their defense. They’ll also hope for further progress from John Mateer, who’s still healing from a hand injury. Mateer was 17-of-31 for 223 yards and a touchdown against Ole Miss.

Kickoff from Neyland Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
