One of the biggest SEC matchups of the entire 2025 college football season has finally arrived, and it features a clash between the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs and their Achilles Heel over the past 15 years, the No. 17 Alabama Crimson Tide.
These 2 storied programs have produced some of the most iconic games in SEC history in recent years, and their meeting in 2024 was no different, as the Tide topped the Dawgs once again in a thrilling 41-34 shootout.
Now, Kirby Smart and Georgia will be looking to get their paybacks at home between the hedges, and Bill Connelly’s just dropped his SP+ projection for the pivotal tilt between these 2 hated rivals.
Per Connelly’s projections, the Tide will once again shock the Dawgs in devastating fashion, as they are currently predicted to win by a final score of 27-26 in the primetime matchup on ABC.
The SP+ is a predictive model that utilizes various statistics and historical trends to produce both power rankings for ESPN and to project the outcome of any given matchup each weekend.
It’s far from a perfect system, but if the numbers do end up checking out come Saturday, then Georgia could be in line to lose another heartbreaker at the hands of the Tide on its home field.
The results on the field are all that matter at the end of the day, though, so it will be interesting to see who ends up coming out on top when the final whistle blows on Saturday night.
