We are four years into the College Football Playoff, and already Alabama has played in it all four years.
Georgia is the only other team to have played in a CFP game, as the Dawgs beat OU in the Rose Bowl before losing to Alabama in the national championship.
Since 2014, Alabama has won two national championships and has a record of 5-2 in playoff games. It’s Tennessee, however, that has the best winning percentage. Of course, the Vols missed on a bowl game last year, but they sit 3-0.
Auburn, on the other hand, has been to four bowl games and won just one of them. Sure, that’s slightly better than winless Kentucky and Vanderbilt, but all things considered, the Tigers post-season record is weak.
Here’s every SEC team’s bowl game record during the College Football Playoff era:
- Alabama (5-2, 2 national championships)
- Arkansas (2-1)
- Auburn (1-3)
- Florida (2-1)
- Georgia (4-1)
- Kentucky (0-2)
- LSU (2-2)
- Miss State (3-1)
- Ole Miss (1-1)
- Missouri (1-1)
- South Carolina (2-1)
- Tennessee (3-0)
- Texas A&M (1-3)
- Vanderbilt (0-1)
Specifically, within the former BCS era, Georgia led all SEC teams with 16 bowl appearances, winning 11 of them. Alabama played in 13 bowl games, winning seven of them. Ole Miss had the highest winning percentage with 89 percent, winning eight of nine appearances. Vanderbilt, like the CFP era, played in just four bowl games during the BCS era and won three of them.
