Offensive lineman Jake Matthews, the sixth overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft from Texas A&M, looks to be staying in Atlanta for the foreseeable future. Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff announced the team will exercise its fifth-year option with the former Aggie Thursday morning.
Entering his fourth season with the club this offseason, Matthews and the team continue to work toward a long-term deal, according to Dimitroff.

Matthews didn’t miss a game last season for the Falcons during the team’s run to the Super Bowl. In fact, the three-year veteran has started up front at left tackle for the Falcon in every game since being drafted in 2014. Still working on his rookie deal, Matthews is slated to make a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.
