Fans asking what happens to Jimbo Fisher’s blank national championship plaque
By Andrew Olson
Published:
Jimbo Fisher did not win a national title at Texas A&M. Fisher, however, has national championship hardware from his Aggie tenure.
Fisher was memorably presented with a “20–” national championship plaque upon his hiring at Texas A&M.
So, Texas A&M gave Jimbo Fisher a plaque for a national championship with a blank date…

With Texas A&M firing Jimbo Fisher, I should remind you that they gave him THIS trophy when they hired him pic.twitter.com/1BmhHaiefR

I just want to know what’s happening to this trophy. Does Jimbo get to keep it as part of his buyout? pic.twitter.com/G8jlqr9bwU

What’s A&M going to do with the plaque they gave Jimbo when they hired him, with the fill in date for whatever year he was going to win the national championship there? Does he get to take it with him as a parting gift? pic.twitter.com/IjPhOrL6sn

Perhaps Fisher was doomed at Texas A&M from the start. Jason Kirk points out that the plaque was technically for an FCS title. The NCAA awards the FCS National Championship. FBS national champions have long been declared by polls and the bowl system, and now the College Football Playoff.
Since this is technically an FCS championship plaque (as that’s the only “NCAA Division I Football National Championship”), I’m excited to welcome Jimbo Fisher to the Big Sky Conference whenever we’re able to find room pic.twitter.com/A9WUbiMNMV

Saturday Down South columnist Connor O’Gara expects the plaque is getting the Christmas tree treatment.
