Fans, media clown Clemson after falling to 1-3 in blowout loss to Syracuse
Things went from bad to worse for Clemson on Saturday afternoon.
After beginning the season as a potential College Football Playoff contender, Clemson lost its third game in four outings to begin the 2025 season on Saturday. This time the loss was to Syracuse. Clemson was favored by more than 17 points at most sportsbooks, but was never competitive in this game.
Syracuse took a 10-0 lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back, earning a wire-to-wire victory over Clemson. For the Orange, this was their second FBS win of the season — the first came in overtime against UConn earlier this year.
The result follows some interesting comments from coach Dabo Swinney earlier this week, who suggested he could move somewhere else and have success at a different program if Clemson was ready to move on.
Turnovers were a big problem for Clemson in this game. The Tigers were -2 in turnover differential, which is a big reason why they dropped this contest despite out-gaining Syracuse on a yards-per-play basis.
The remainder of Clemson’s season is still very much in doubt. The Tigers are now 0-2 in ACC play after beginning the year as a favorite to win the league. Clemson has games remaining vs. Florida State, Louisville and South Carolina, among a few other tough matchups.
Here’s some of the social media reaction following Clemson’s stunning effort vs. the Orange:
