Florida announces return of popular throwback uniforms for homecoming game
Florida will be celebrating in full throttle in October when it plays its homecoming game against Mississippi State.
Yes, it will be homecoming when Florida entertains the Bulldogs at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Oct. 18, which is enough in itself. But this will be a special sort of homecoming at The Swamp, with Florida bringing back its beloved homecoming jerseys and helmets to wear for the occasion.
The last time Florida wore its snazzy, old threads was in 2021, also for its homecoming game, with the guest that year being Vanderbilt. The Gators celebrated that day in fine fashion, literally, as they pounded Vandy, 42-0, doing all of their scoring by the end of the 3rd quarter. Florida fans can only hope this time around the retro threads will bring a similar result against Mississippi State in mid-October.
The Florida football social media account celebrated the throwback jerseys announcement on Monday with this 21-second video:
According to the Gators Uniform Tracker fan social media account, this will be the only throwback uniform to be repeated, after the aforementioned game against Vanderbilt 4 years ago.
Here is a look at what the Gators will look like on Oct. 18 against Mississippi State:
As noted by GatorsOnline, Florida is undefeated when it wears its throwback uniforms in homecoming games, dating all the way back to 2006. The last example of Florida’s winning ways in the retros came on that October day 4 years ago when it throttled Vanderbilt.
Four years later, the throwbacks will be back yet again, and Florida will have a chance to stay perfect in the throwbacks on homecoming.
