Florida CB Cormani McClain avoids serious injury after MRI, per report
Florida cornerback Cormani McClain “is believed to have avoided a significant injury” after having an MRI on Monday, according to a CBS Sports report on Tuesday morning.
The sophomore defensive back was carted off the field during last Saturday night’s SEC showdown between Florida against Tennessee with what was believed to be a knee injury. But it appears that McClain has escaped anything serious, according to the MRI and the report that surfaced after the MRI.
McClain has 17 total tackles this season for the struggling Gators, including 10 solo tackles. He also has 1 interception to his credit this fall, with that pick coming way back in Week 4 in a loss to Miami.
A former in-state star down the road from Gainesville in Lakeland, Fla., McClain is in his 2nd year at Florida after transferring from Colorado after the 2023 season. McClain’s 1 and only season in Boulder was forgettable, with McClain having a falling out with Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.
McClain wanted a fresh start and got that after transferring to Florida in May of 2024. This fall has been McClain’s first shot at extended action in Gainesville, after he redshirted last year at Florida, playing in 3 games and starting 1.
It’s been a bumpy ride collegiately so far for McClain, but according to Tuesday’s CBS Sports report it looks like he dodged a major bullet injury-wise.
