The Gators got some terrific news on the recruiting front Thursday as four-star in-state safety Amari Burney has committed to play for Florida over Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, and Ohio State among many others. Burney is the seventh commitment of the Gators’ 2018 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-1, 215-pound Burney has been extended an offer to participate in the 2017 The Opening Finals held at Nike world headquarters. 247Sports lists him as the No. 11 safety in the nation and the No. 25 overall recruit from Florida for the 2018 recruiting cycle. Burney is currently the Gators highest ranked commitment for the current recruiting cycle.
Burney announced his plans at a ceremony held at his school, Calvary Christian High School, on his grandfather’s birthday.

Here’s Burney’s junior season highlight reel. While he is being recruited as a defensive back, he plays both sides of the ball in high school.
