Florida QB commit Will Griffin moves past Tim Tebow in state HS record book
Florida quarterback commit Will Griffin invoked the name Tim Tebow before he was even done his high school career, which is a pretty nice way to introduce yourself to the Gators’ fan base.
Griffin, starting his senior season at Tampa Jesuit, passed Tebow on the state of Florida’s high school career passing yards list during his game on Friday night. The 2026 4-star Florida commit entered his regular-season opener against Fort Myers Bishop Verot at 9,765 yards passing. Tebow, the Florida football legend who won 2 national titles in Gainesville and became larger than life there, finished his high school career at Ponte Vedra Beach Nease with 9,810 yards.
By the 2nd quarter, Griffin had passed Tebow, and that had to grab the attention of the Florida fan base even 1 full year before Griffin could even play a down for the Gators.
In addition to his 4-star status, Griffin is the 202nd-ranked player in the Class of 2026, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the 15th-ranked quarterback in the class and the 28th-ranked player from the state of Florida, according to the Composite rankings. Griffin previously made headlines before passing Tebow because he was the first recruit to commit to Florida in the 2026 recruiting cycle, committing to the Gators in June of 2024.
According to MaxPreps, Griffin is now at No. 12 on the all-time passing yardage list in Florida high school football. He is fast approaching 10,000 career passing yards and, according to MaxPreps, would be just the 10th quarterback in the state of Florida to reach the lofty yards milestone.
For Florida fans who worship Tebow and everything he represents, Griffin is officially a player to watch for 2026 and beyond. Because 1 year before he can play an official football game for the Gators, Griffin just made the greatest first impression a future UF quarterback ever could.
