Dan Mullen’s first Florida staff appears to be one step closer to being finalized as the Gators are expected to hire Oakland Raiders linebacker coach Sal Sunseri.

NFL Insider Adam Caplan reports that the hiring could be announced as soon as Wednesday. Sunseri will work under defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, who left Mississippi State with Mullen this offseason after helping turn the MSU defense into one of the SEC’s best in only one season in Starkville.

Caplan tweeted out the news early Wednesday:

Aside from his NFL experience, Sunseri also has SEC experience with Alabama as an assistant head coach and linebackers coach from 2009-2011 and at Tennessee as a defensive coordinator in 2012. Following his failed stint as a coordinator in Knoxville, Sunseri moved on to coach defensive ends at Florida State before joining the Raiders.
