The MVP of Florida’s recent Birmingham Bowl victory will leave the program.

“Adam Lane has some family issues that he is dealing with and wants to be closer to home,” head coach Jim McElwain said in a statement released by the school. “As you’ve heard me say many times, family comes first in this program and we will grant him his release and we will do everything we can do to help him.”

While the closer to home reason cited might certainly apply, Lane’s hometown of Winter Haven, Fla., is only 130 miles from Gainesville, Fla., so perhaps there’s more to the story?

Lane was a three-star running back from Winter Haven, Fla. His short, but thick physique gave him a powerful running style. While perhaps not a consistent feature back at the SEC level, he added depth to the Florida running game.

With the loss of Lane, Florida still has some talent in its backfield.

The question remains: can Florida’s offensive line in 2015 make holes and provide enough push for the running backs to have success?
