Florida secured a much-needed 29-21 win over Texas on Saturday, a victory that ever-so-slightly cooled off the seat of head coach Billy Napier.

But despite the upset win over a top-10 team, the Gators’ fan base was still hesitant to be overjoyed. And when there’s still this much negativity surrounding a program after a positive result, things tend to get testy.

Following the game, Florida’s General Manager for Player Personnel Jacob LaFrance took to Twitter/X to celebrate the win, and he quoted the football team’s victory post and simply stated: “Sun Belt Billy and the boys…”

The caption was a not-so-subtle nod to the nickname fans have given Napier, which harkens back to when he largely dominated that conference as head coach of Louisiana prior to his struggles in Gainesville. Thus, many fans toss out that phrase as a jab that he can’t win in a league like the SEC.

So when LaFrance decided to poke fun at the Gator faithful, they did not take too kindly. Many in the replies brought up Napier’s 21-22 overall record since taking command of the program, and others chastised a high-ranking member of Florida’s staff for taunting the fanbase.

LaFrance spent 3 seasons with Napier at Louisiana from 2019-2021, and thus he and the head coach have a stronger bond than most. He was able to help the program land the Sun Belt’s No. 1 recruiting classes in 2019 and 2020.
