Florida’s highest draft pick at each position

The Gators have had a myriad of NFL draft picks of which to be proud. The Florida football program has put talented individuals into the league across all positions throughout its history, but in recent years – namely the national championship era with Urban Meyer – the high draft picks really picked up.

Florida has the opportunity to put another high pick in its history books with Dante Fowler, Jr. who is expected to be taken near the top of the first round in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Here are the highest draft picks by position for the Florida Gators:

QB: 3rd overall – Steve Spurrier, San Francisco 49ers, 1967

RB: 2nd overall — Chuck Hunsinger, Chicago Bears, 1950; Paul Duhart, Pittsburgh Steelers, 1945

FB: 13th overall – James Jones, Detroit Lions, 1983

WR: 3rd overall – Wes Chandler, New Orleans Saints, 1978

TE: 40th overall – Ben Troupe, Tennessee Titans, 2004

C: 15th overall – Mike Pouncey, Miami Dolphins, 2011

OG: 19th overall – Larry Gagner, Pittsburgh Steelers, 1966

OT: 6th overall – Lomas Brown, Detroit Lions, 1985

DT: 3rd overall – Gerard Warren, Cleveland Browns, 2001

DE: 6th overall – Kevin Carter, St. Louis Rams, 1995

LB: 11th overall – Wilber Marshall, Chicago Bears, 1984

CB: 7th overall – Joe Haden, Cleveland Browns, 2010

S: 21st overall – Reggie Nelson, Jacksonville Jaguars, 2007

K: 166th overall – Caleb Sturgis, Miami Dolphins, 2013

P: 121st overall – Ray Criswell, Philadelphia Eagles, 1986
