It’s an age-old question that we never seem to get a definitive answer to.

Which college has the best overall athletics?

Instead of simply debating it without any merit, Yahoo Sports’ Pat Forde ranked all 65 Power 5 athletic departments based on their overall success. He didn’t give more favor to the revenue sports like football or basketball. That’s perhaps why certain SEC programs didn’t rank that high.

The rankings used a 5-year average of the Learfield Cup standings, which Stanford has won 24 years in a row (not surprisingly, that’s who was No. 1 on the list).

To read a full breakdown of Forde’s criteria and to see each of the explanations for each ranking, click here.

Here’s where Forde had each SEC school ranked:

  • 52. Vanderbilt
  • 47. Ole Miss
  • 46. Mississippi State
  • 37. Mizzou
  • 36. Tennessee
  • 30. South Carolina
  • 29. Auburn
  • 24. Alabama
  • 22. LSU
  • 21. Arkansas
  • 17. Kentucky
  • 13. Georgia
  • 11. Texas A&M
  • 2. Florida

Go figure that the top 2 SEC schools, Florida and Texas A&M, both have new head football coaches. Perhaps they can boost their spot in next year’s ranking.
