Texas San Antonio head coach Frank Wilson, most known for his time spent as an assistant coach at LSU, made an interesting hire Wednesday as his school announced former Alabama defensive line coach Bo Davis would be joining the staff. Davis, of course, resigned from his position with the Tide last offseason after drawing the ire of the NCAA for alleged recruiting violations as a member of Nick Saban’s staff.
Faced with the option of being fired by Alabama or simply resigning, Davis chose to resign. This move is all the more surprising considering the NCAA still has an open investigation ongoing regarding Davis. Apparently, the option to add one of the nation’s top defensive line coaches and recruiters outweighed the possible negative repercussions of having Davis on the staff for UTSA.

Davis ranked as the nation’s No. 3 overall recruiter in 2016, per 247Sports, his last full season recruiting for the Crimson Tide. Some of the prospects Davis landed at Alabama include several five-star recruits in (linebacker) Ben Davis, (defensive back) Kendall Sheffield, (defensive lineman) Da’Ron Payne as well as four-star recruits (defensive back) Nigel Knott and (defensive lineman) Terrell Hall.
Aside from his work at Alabama, Davis has coached defensive lines for USC, Texas, the Miami Dolphins and has worked at LSU as a strength coach.
