Former Alabama DL Da’Ron Payne is the first first-round pick to sign his NFL rookie contract, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
The Redskins drafted Payne No. 13 overall, and his draft slot should have an $8.65 million signing bonus and a $14.54 total contract value. His rookie contract will be a four-year deal.
Payne joins Washington’s defense after Redskins drafted former Alabama teammates Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson in 2017. He was the second Alabama player off the board last month behind Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Of all the former Alabama linemen to get drafted, Payne is just the second defensive lineman drafted in the first round the last seven years.
