After he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, former Auburn OL Shon Coleman failed to live up to expectations as a rookie.

The ex-Tiger appeared in only seven games and made zero starts — not what the Browns were expecting as they tried to rebuild their offensive line.

However, heading into the 2017 season, Coleman has been working hard to put himself in the best position to succeed. He told ClevelandBrowns.com that he learned a lot from his time on the sidelines as a rookie and will come into his sophomore season as a better player because of it:

“I don’t think it was a bad thing,” Coleman said. “I got to sit back and take everything in and experience a lot of things. I got thrown in the game a couple of times and got to learn from that. I think it’s better for me going into my second year and knowing what to expect.”

After overcoming leukemia in the early stages of his college career, last year’s adversity was easy for Coleman by comparison.

It’s not hard to imagine the 6-6, 310-pound lineman earning the starting job at right tackle when the 2017 NFL season kicks off.
