Former Auburn RB Cameron Artis-Payne making most of XFL opportunity

Last week, former Auburn RB Cameron Artis-Payne reminded fans (and, perhaps, some NFL executives) that he’s still an effective ball-carrier. Artis-Payne, who was cut by Carolina Panthers ahead of the 2019 NFL season, had a strong showing for the Dallas Renegades in Week 2 of the rebooted-XFL’s 2020 season. Artis-Payne logged 14 carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns in a 25-18 Dallas win over the Los Angeles Wildcats. Despite the strong showing Artis-Payne isn’t necessarily expecting more carries.
โCoach Hal Mumme โ heโs the godfather of the Air Raid offense, so, no, Iโm not hoping that,โ Artis-Payne told reporters this week after practice. โBut balance is always a good thing.โ

โItโs good to get the run game going,โ Artis-Payne added. โItโs a major part of our offense. Makes it unpredictable. The play-action pass opens everything up for us, so to get the run game going in LA was pretty good. Weโre hoping to come back this week and be successful in that aspect as well.โ
A four-year NFL veteran, Artis-Payne says he’s still adjusting to the XFL, but is making the most of his latest pro football opportunity.
โIโm getting adjusted to it,โ Artis-Payne said. โItโs fun. Itโs a lot of crazy stuff going on. Weโre micโd up on everything. Iโve seen a couple of peopleโs halftime speeches โ yโall know what Iโm talking about. All in all, Iโm enjoying it. Itโs a great opportunity to be a part of this league, to be a part of the re-opening of the XFL and to be a part of this first year of the league. Itโs huge for me.โ
