Former Gator RB Emmitt Smith to be honored by Florida during Michigan game
Florida and Michigan meet in “Jerry World” on Saturday and a familiar face will be standing at center field before the opening kickoff.
Emmitt Smith, a former Gator running back and NFL all-time rushing leader, will act as honorary captain for his beloved Alma Mater when the coin is flipped. He had a stellar career with Florida paving his way to the NFL, where he would be selected by the Cowboys in 1990. During his time as a Gator, Smith amassed 37 total touchdowns and over 4,300 yards from scrimmage.
He went on to win three Super Bowls with “America’s Team” and was eventually selected to the NFL Hall of Fame, first ballot of course. It was an easy selection process, considering Smith ended his pro career with over 18,000 rushing yards and 164 rushing touchdowns.
The Wolverines and Gators will be a part of one of the best opening weekends in the history of college football. The AdvoCare Classic will be televised by ABC and kick off at 3:30 ET. Joe Tessitore, Todd Blackledge and Holly Rowe will be on the call.
