John Chavis will be coaching in LSU’s Tiger Stadium for the first time since leaving the Tigers in February.
Chavis spent six seasons as Les Miles’ defensive coordinator (2009-14) before leaving to take the same position at Texas A&M after last season.
LSU (7-3) faces Texas A&M (8-3) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge. The game will be shown on the SEC Network.
While Chavis probably has a lot of fond memories from his time at LSU, his loyalty is clearly to Texas A&M now.
“I’m excited about walking in there as an Aggie,” Chavis told the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday.
Chavis was also asked about the rumors surrounding Miles. The LSU coach is reportedly on the hot seat after three straight losses. But Chavis declined to discuss the situation.
“This is going to be about Texas A&M and LSU on the football field. I don’t know what’s going on and I’m not concerned with it. You move on,” he said.
Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin was also asked about Miles’ job situation, and said he didn’t know enough about the situation to comment. However, he spoke highly of Miles as a coach.
“I have a lot of respect for Les Miles and what he’s accomplished in 11 years,” Sumlin said.
