Former LSU LB Xavier Atkins has found a home in the SEC with a rival program.
Atkins announced his transfer commitment to Auburn on Wednesday evening. His signing was announced by Auburn on Thursday morning.
Out of Houston (Texas) Summer Creek High School, Atkins was a blue-chip prospect. On the 247Sports Composite, he was rated 4-stars, the No. 25 linebacker, No. 55 player in Texas and No. 334 recruit overall in the Class of 2024.
There was a time Atkins was expected to land at Texas A&M. The Aggies had a coaching change in 2023, and Atkins elected to sign with LSU. He’s now excited about the opportunity to play for DJ Durkin, the former Texas A&M defensive coordinator and linebackers coach serving in the same position on Hugh Freeze’s Auburn staff.
As a freshman at LSU, Atkins played in 7 games for the Tigers during the 2024 season. He logged 3 total tackles on the season. His last appearance came on Nov. 9 in LSU’s loss to Alabama.
Though Auburn and LSU have a rich rivalry history, the annual game was lost to the SEC’s 16-team schedule. It would take a meeting in the SEC Championship Game or College Football Playoff for Atkins to face his former team in 2025. The SEC has yet to announce a scheduling plan for 2026 and beyond.
