The college football landscape was altered in some pretty drastic ways last season when longtime Big 12 stalwarts Texas and Oklahoma made the jump over to the SEC.
A different realignment domino fell over a decade earlier when two other longtime Big 12 programs left for the SEC back in 2012.
These first 2 defectors were, of course, the Texas A&M Aggies and the Missouri Tigers. Mizzou’s former athletic director sat down to explain why the school ultimately decided to make the jump 13 years ago.
“Consistently at the Big 12 meetings you would see a couple of voices that had more sway than anybody else in there,” said former Missouri AD Mike Alden. “So there was a dismissive attitude towards Iowa State, towards Kansas State, towards Mizzou. It wasn’t that we needed to think more of ourselves than we were, but I just think that the area of disrespect for Missouri and these other schools was pretty prominent.”
