The New York Giants took former Georgia DB Deandre Baker in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but he struggled as a rookie.
He appeared in all 16 games, making 15 starts, but didn’t have the best year. He did record 8 pass breakups and 61 tackles, though.
Now that the Giants are entering a new year under a new coach in Joe Judge, Baker is getting some love from at least one former Giant great (via the New York Post):
“To whom much is given much is expected,’’ said Carl Banks, the former Giants linebacker, who is around the team often in his role as Giants radio commentator and analyst. “If he wasn’t held accountable and he didn’t have a structure by which he should have been held accountable from play to play, series to series, then you can expect that.’’
Banks also took to Twitter to praise Baker and his natural talent:

He is very capable and must show the willingness to learn, he will be "taught" zone principles and must have a complete skillset in this scheme. https://t.co/pxQnjZu7el

Baker only allowed 1 touchdown pass during his time at Georgia. We’ll see if he can get back to those lockdown ways this fall.
