Former Ole Miss pledge JaVonta Payton commits to Mississippi State during lead up to Egg Bowl
This commitment has got to feel especially good for Hail State fans.
While landing a commitment at any time is good news, especially from a player ranked as highly as JaVonta Payton, but the fact that he was recently committed to Ole Miss and decommitted from Matt Luke’s program has to be extra special for Joe Moorhead and company with the Egg Bowl just days away.
On Monday, 6-foot-2, 182-pound Payton announced he had committed to Mississippi State after visiting Starkville over the weekend, where he apparently hit it off with MSU QB graduate transfer target Kelly Bryant.
He’s currently rated as the No. 3 junior college receiver in the nation and the No. 35 overall JUCO prospect by 247Sports Composite Rankings. Payton had recently visited Tennessee prior to this visit to Mississippi State. Payton signed with Ole Miss out of high school but failed to qualify and was forced to enroll at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Following this news, Mississippi State now has 21 commitments for the 2019 recruiting cycle.
I want to thank all the coaches who have recruited me these last few months. Thank you to Northwest coaches for being there for me and helping me with this journey. My family & I have talked this over & I am excited to say I am officially Committed to Mississippi #HailState ? pic.twitter.com/Lk7Pyz0JqZ
