Former Tennessee CB Shawn Shamburger commits to new school

After he entered the transfer portal twice this offseason, former Tennessee defensive back Shawn Shamburger has reportedly committed to a new school.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound defensive back is from Colquitt County High School in Moultrie, Georgia, will play for UT-Martin, Vols Wire reported.
Shamburger appeared in just three games for the Vols during the 2020 season before making the decision to opt-out for the remainder of the season. Overall, Shamburger played for the Vols from 2017-20. He appeared in 38 games, started 16, totaling 86 tackles, 5.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, one interception and five pass deflections. Meanwhile, during the 2019 season, Shamburger was the starting nickel back for Tennessee.
“Shawn is working on academics,” former Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt said in a press conference following Shamburger’s decision to opt-out in mid-November. “This has been a very unusual, really circumstance, this whole deal. You try to do school from home, not being in person. Again, when you talk about tutors and things like that. One of the things he’s going to focus on is academics the rest of the semester.”
UT Martin kicks off the 2021 season on Sept. 2 at Western Kentucky against former Tennessee offensive coordinator Tyson Helton. Helton enters his third season as Western Kentucky’s head coach.
