Micah Abernathy has officially made a case for himself to have a shot at making the Green Bay Packers roster.

The former Tennessee defensive back turned heads during Friday evening’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, coming up with an impressive leaping interception that gave the Green Bay offense an opportunity to get back on the field, though they ultimately didn’t produce any points off of it.

Abernathy was signed by the Packers on Aug. 10 after a stint in the USFL, making him one of a handful of players who are getting a shot in the NFL after spending some time in the “minor leagues.”

With the situation that Green Bay currently has at safety, as long as Abernathy keeps up making plays like this one, it’s certainly not out of the picture for him to make a run at a roster spot. The Packers have suffered the injury bug at the position, with Vernon Scott among the latest as he was forced to exit Friday night’s game with an injury.

Between what Abernathy can bring to the table in his own right and a further opened door to shine, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this player on an NFL roster sooner rather than later depending on how things shake out.
