Gaines will have a chance to earn a starting job in Cleveland, where he’ll be reunited with Browns defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. It was in Williams’ defense with the Rams where Gaines started 15 games as a sixth-round rookie in 2014 and 10 more games in 2016.
A Lisfranc foot injury slowed down the PFWA All-Rookie selection’s second season, and a thigh injury sidelined him for 5 games in 2016.
Still, the former first-team All-SEC selection has had a solid NFL career so far. He has 185 tackles, 30 pass deflections, 4 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions.
