Utah State head coach Gary Andersen has been fired, according to USA Today’s Dan Wolken, citing a source.

“Breaking: Utah State is parting ways with Gary Andersen, per source. Word beginning to reach staff there,” Wolken tweeted Saturday.

The Utah State Aggies have started the season a disappointing 0-3 in 2020 with losses against Boise State, San Diego and Nevada.

Andersen previously coached Utah State from 2009-12 before leaving for Wisconsin in 2013-14. While at Wisconsin, Andersen finished 19-7 overall before he eventually left frustrated over the high admissions standards for student-athletes. The college football world was shocked when he left the Badgers for Oregon State.

At Oregon State from 2015-17, he finished with an overall record of 7-23. He then became the assistant head coach at Utah under Kyle Whittingham before eventually making it back to Utah State.

Under Andersen’s leadership, Utah State finished 7-6 in 2019. He went 33-33 overall in 5-plus years at Utah State.
