Gene Chizik receives mountains of criticism amid another woeful defensive effort for UNC

Gene Chizik and the North Carolina defense is off to a rough start this season. The Tar Heels last week gave up 984 yards in a 63-61 victory over Appalachian State. That came after UNC gave up 335 yards in a 56-24 victory over Florida A&M.

This time, fans and media are after the UNC defensive coordinator as the Tar Heels are leading just 35-28 midway through the fourth quarter against Georgia State, a team that pushed South Carolina for a while last week. The Panthers have more than 400 total yards and 21 first downs in the game. Most notably, Georgia State has 231 rushing yards.

Perhaps most alarming is that the Tar Heels gave up a pair of 98-yard drives in consecutive weeks to Sun Belt opponents.
