A Georgetown College (Ky.) football player has died after injuring himself in a fraternity house this past weekend.

John Colson Machlitt, a sophomore defensive lineman, was reportedly attempting to jump from a third-floor stairwell at the Lambda Chi house over the railing to a second-floor landing when he fell and hit his head.

He was taken to UK Hospital in Lexington, where he was visited by his coach and teammates. The Fayette County coroner confirmed Machlitt’s death to WLEX NBC Lexington Monday evening.

Machlitt was 18.
