ESPN’s “College GameDay” is in Athens as Georgia is set to face Ole Miss in a key Top 10 showdown at Sanford Stadium.
The Bulldogs will have their sights set on improving to 6-1 while handing the Rebels their first loss of the season. Afterwards, they’ll have an open week before the annual Cocktail Party game against Florida in Week 10, its last year in Jacksonville before EverBank Stadium undergoes a multi-year renovation.
That said, the way things are going for the Gators — they’re currently 2-4 — there’s no guarantee that Billy Napier will be coaching in a couple of weeks with Florida idle as well during Week 9. In fact, USA TODAY’s Matt Hayes reported on Wednesday that a loss to Mississippi State at the Swamp on Saturday could seal the fate of the fourth-year head coach, who’s 21-23.
One Georgia fan may be hoping that Napier sticks around a while longer, considering he’s 0-3 against Kirby Smart‘s team. As you can see, a sign that read “Extend Billy Napier” found its way onto the GameDay broadcast:
Could Georgia be facing an interim coach in Jacksonville come Nov. 1? That possibility certainly isn’t out of the question at this point.
First, the Bulldogs’ focus will be on Ole Miss. Kickoff between the hedges is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
