Georgia football’s game on Saturday afternoon against Austin Peay went into a weather delay because of lightning in the area.

With 4th-ranked Georgia only leading 14-3 over its FCS opponent at the half, a weather warning was posted on the big scoreboard at Sanford Stadium as the teams were forced to stop the game. Lightning was detected within 8 miles of the stadium, forcing the weather delay.

Georgia was trying to push its record to 2-0 after last week’s blowout victory over Marshall. The Bulldogs were also trying to build some rhythm with a showdown at Tennessee next Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Austin Peay had come off a history-making Week 1 victory at Middle Tennessee. The Governors won the game, 34-14, but that was only a part of the story. It was the FCS team’s first victory over an FBS team since 1987, when Austin Peay beat Kansas State. The Governors snapped a 12-game losing streak to Middle Tennessee and hadn’t beaten the Blue Raiders since before the program moved to the FBS in 1999.

Austin Peay was giving Georgia fits, too, before the weather delay began at the half. Chauncey Bowens and Nate Frazier each had touchdown runs in the first half for the Bulldogs.
