Georgia has perhaps the best defense in the country, making a statement against a previously unbeaten Arkansas squad on Saturday.
The Bulldogs didn’t allow the Razorbacks to score a single point in a 37-0 blowout win at Sanford Stadium in Athens.
When ESPN updated its Football Power Index (FPI) rankings after Week 5, Georgia was the No. 1 team, ahead of No. 2 Alabama.
That was the case last week as well, but Georgia has jumped even further ahead. The Bulldogs’ FPI score is 28.2, ahead of Alabama’s 27.0.
For reference on just how dominant those 2 teams have been, Ohio State is in the No. 3 spot, and its FPI score is only 20.9.
ESPN’s FPI is, according to the website, “a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team’s performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is.”
