Georgia loses defensive assistant Will Windham to Kent State

Need another sign that Georgia is quickly turning into another Alabama? Kirby Smart has mimicked Nick Saban in another category, he’s helping his assistants land promotions left and right this offseason.

The latest UGA coach to leave Athens for a promotion is defensive quality control coach Will Windham. After serving on both of Smart’s Georgia staffs over the last two years, Windham has accepted an on the field position at Kent State as linebackers coach.

Windham, a Mississippi State graduate, had experience at Davidson as an on the field coach as well as off the field roles at Penn State and his alma mater before landing a job with Georgia.

The former Georgia assistant announced his departure from the program while thanking Smart and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker at the same time:
