Georgia QB Gunner Stockton invited to attend Manning Passing Academy
The Manning Passing Academy has been announcing attendees for this year’s event for the last few weeks on its Instagram page. On Friday, the premier offseason skills camp announced that Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton has been invited.
Stockton will join stars like Texas quarterback Arch Manning, Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers, and Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer. Ty Simpson (Alabama), Taylen Green (Arkansas), Austin Simmons (Ole Miss), and Blake Shapen (Mississippi State) are also expected to attend.
This year’s event begins on June 26 and runs through June 29 at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Archie Manning runs the skills camp — now in its 29th year — alongside his 2 sons, Peyton and Eli. Each offseason, it is viewed as the place to be for quarterbacks across college football.
The experience should serve Stockton well.
A redshirt junior, Stockton is going into his fourth year within the Georgia program. He spent the first 3 in a reserve role, but with Carson Beck transferring to Miami, Stockton is in line to start for the Bulldogs in 2025.
Of course, he played a crucial role in Georgia’s win over Texas in last season’s SEC Championship, and he started in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Notre Dame. Stockton threw 64 passes last season, completing 45 of them (70%) for 440 yards and 1 touchdown against 1 interception.
But questions about how Georgia will look with Stockton as the full-time starter have been plentiful this offseason. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum recently said Georgia would not be fine with Stockton at quarterback, adding that he was “underwhelmed” by Stockton’s performance in the loss to Notre Dame.
“Gunner got the message, man,” Kirby Smart said with a chuckle when he went on Finebaum’s show at the end of May.
The Bulldogs begin the 2025 season at home against Marshall on Aug. 30. They play Austin Peay the following week. Stockton will have a couple of games against traditionally overmatched competition to find a rhythm before the Dawgs travel to Knoxville to face Tennessee on Sept. 13.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
