On Friday, it was reported that Georgia was suspending basketball assistant coach Wade Mason indefinitely following an altercation between the Bulldogs Director of Player Personnel Brian Fish and Mason during halftime of Georgia’s 85-64 loss to LSU. Mason was suspended with pay, per reports.
On Saturday morning, Georgia released a statement about the allegations made against the program. Details of the suspension were not made available via the statement; however, it did question “various media reports” about the altercation.
“There have been various media reports related to UGA Athletics personnel ranging from completely inaccurate to incomplete and premature. The incident in question was reported properly as required by university policies and is under review. We will comment if and when appropriate,” Georgia said in a statement.
Georgia’s season has been near disaster. The Bulldogs sit 6-20 overall and just 1-12 in the SEC. Tom Crean is sitting on one of the hottest seats, and it’s worth noting that his buyout drops from $7 million to $3 million when Georgia’s season ends.
