Georgia has suspended men’s basketball assistant coach Wade Mason indefinitely after an altercation between Mason and Bulldogs director of player personnel Brian Fish during halftime of Georgia’s 85-64 loss at LSU on Wednesday.

The news was first reported by the AJC, and other media noted that Georgia’s Friday media availability with Tom Crean ahead of the Ole Miss game on Saturday was called off.

Mason was suspended with pay. He is in his first year with the program after 5 seasons at Stephen F. Austin. Fish, a former head coach at Montana, is in his third season with the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have lost six straight games heading into a 1 p.m. home game Saturday against Ole Miss.

Georgia is 6-20 overall and 1-12 in the SEC.

Mason came to Georgia with the benefit of being in close proximity to his two children, Jaila and Wade Jr.

Georgia has three on-court assistants — Mason, Steve McClain and John Linehan — and Fish contributes to the program in the premier support staff role.

Crean’s future is increasingly in jeopardy as the Bulldogs continue to struggle in his fourth season.

“I try to stay 100% focused on the present and focused on what the team needs each day and 0% on my future,” Crean told the AJC. “That’s the way it’s always been. I pray for that peace from God to do my best each day in giving people what they need to be their best.”
