Georgia endured a historically-bad first half on Friday night against Georgia Tech.

The Bulldogs trail 17-0 at the break. It’s the first time since 2019 that Georgia has not scored in the first half of a game. In that instance, Georgia ended up coming back to beat Kentucky 21-0.

It’s also just the 5th time that it’s happened during the Kirby Smart era.

It’s also just the 4th time in the Smart era that Georgia has trailed by 17 points or more at the break. The last time UGA faced a halftime deficit this large was earlier this season against Alabama. The other previous instances came back in 2020 (Florida) and 2016 (Ole Miss).

Georgia was bad on both sides of the ball in the first half, but particularly on defense. The Bulldogs gave up 307 total yards to Georgia Tech before the break. This marks just the 7th time that Georgia has conceded more than 300 yards in the first half under Smart.

Georgia Tech was efficient on the ground and through the air. The Yellow Jackets totaled more than 100 yards passing and rushing in the first half. They’re the 4th team to accomplish that feat against Georgia in the Smart era. Alabama (2024), LSU (2018) and Oklahoma (2017) are the other teams to do so.

Georgia will be looking for a historic comeback in the second half. UGA hasn’t come back to win a game after trailing by 14+ points at halftime since the 2017 Rose Bowl against Oklahoma.
