Georgia survives multiple scares from LSU, advances in SEC Tournament

LSU loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the first inning of Tuesday night’s opening round game in the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama.
It looked like a potential rout was on, but the Bulldogs weren’t going to let that happen. A double-play ball allowed 1 run to score, but that was all Georgia allowed.
In the bottom of the first, the Bulldogs scored 4 runs to take a 4-1 lead. And … well, that was it. Those were the only runs scored in the 9-inning contest, as the Dawgs held on for the victory. The 8-seed Bulldogs beat the 9-seed Tigers in a battle of teams on the NCAA Tournament bubble.
LSU had plenty of opportunities, loading the bases a couple more times, but the Tigers couldn’t push any runs across the plate.
LSU has a better strength of schedule, so it’s possible both teams will still make the tournament, but Georgia is feeling much better about its chances at the moment.
Chaney Rogers did most of the damage, hitting a 3-run double in the bottom of the first to break the game open for Georgia. The Bulldogs now advance to play No. 1 seed Arkansas on Wednesday in the double-elimination round. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on the SEC Network.
LSU, meanwhile, will be sweating it out when the NCAA Tournament selections are announced.
