Georgia’s Kirby Smart wins coach of the year award

In only his second season as a head coach, Kirby Smart won the SEC Championship with a dominating 28-7 win over Auburn in Atlanta. Smart now has another award to add to his trophy case.

Friday, the Georgia coach was named Maxwell Football Club’s George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year. Previous winners include Nick Saban (2016), Dabo Swinney (2015), Dan Mullen (2014), and David Cutcliffe (2013).

Georgia went 13-2 overall and 7-1 in the SEC in the regular season.

Smart will have the opportunity to claim his award Friday, March 9 at the 81st Maxwell Club National Awards Gala in Atlantic City.
