It’s down to the final few days before recruits make it official as to where they will take their talents to the collegiate level.
Inside linebacker Ben Davis is one of several making that last-minute decision. He has said that he would make his decision on Signing Day at 9 a.m. ET on ESPNU.
Heading into the final weekend before that fateful morning, the 6-foot-4, 230-pound five-star senior standout at Gordo High School in Alabama, lists the Tide as the frontrunner, with Georgia a close second, Auburn third, and Notre Dame fourth. Davis is taking his official visit to Auburn on Friday.
SEC love
“Auburn is my No. 3 school and they might end up jumping in front of everybody when I come back,” Davis told al.com. I’m ready to get down there and see some more of Auburn.”
He has offers from every school in the SEC except Ole Miss and Mississippi State. But when your dad is Wayne Davis (1983-86), Alabama’s all-time leading tackler (327) who played two seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals, and both your parents attended the school, it’s no surprise why the Tide would be the heavy favorite to land such a talent.

Exhausting process
It’s been an exhausting up-and-down process as recruiting tends to be especially for the cream of the crop. Davis is ranked No. 10 overall in the class of 2016 by 247Sports’ composite rankings and is listed as the nation’s top inside linebacker.
He listed Georgia as the top dog in early December. A week later he was visited by Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt. He took his official visit to Notre Dame in the middle of this month before another visit from Pruitt prior to his official visit to Alabama last week. On Monday he named Alabama as the new leader.
The following day he was visited by Pruitt and head coach Nick Saban. That same day, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and DC Kevin Steele paid a visit as well.

High school hero
Davis seemed like a man among boys in high school, especially his senior season. He led the Gordo Green Wave to an undefeated regular season, finishing with 119 tackles and also catching seven touchdown passes and a total of 504 receiving yards on offense.
He was the MVP of the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic, a first-team all-state seclection, an Under Armour All-American, and the Class 3A Alabama Lineman of the Year. Not a bad season.
And that was after a stellar junior year that included 80 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, a blocked field goal attempt and a safety. Oh, and on offense he piled up 300 receiving yards on 12 catches and scored five touchdowns.
On Wednesday, he will announce his decision on which college to attend and he’s going to make that school, its fans and its coaches very, very happy.
