Ben Davis is a five-star recruit, the No. 1-ranked inside linebacker in the country and No. 10 player overall, according to 247sports.com’s composite rankings.

Here are a few things to know about Davis — one of the SEC’s top targets this cycle.

Davis is a Bama legacy

Davis’ father, Wayne Davis, played at Alabama in the early 1980s and is the school’s all-time tackles leader.

Actually both of Davis’ parents are Alabama alums. Which means it’s no surprise that they have opinions on where their son should attend school.

Davis is being ‘pushed’ to Bama

Wayne Davis is admittedly “pushing” his son to attend Alabama. He says he’s told every school pursing his son that he wants Ben to play at Alabama.

“No matter who it is — Florida, LSU, Georgia — I’m pushing Ben to my alma mater,” Wayne said to AL.com. “I’ve been open with them about that.”

Despite Wayne Davis’ best efforts he said he wanted Ben Davis to wait until signing day, hear every school’s best pitch and take all of his official visits before making up his mind.

It seems like his mind is made up

Up until last weekend Ben Davis was still open and the schools competing for him — Alabama, Auburn, Georgia and Notre Dame — were all fairly even.

But after taking his official visit to Alabama last weekend, Ben Davis was so impressed by his in Tuscaloosa he couldn’t hide his likely intentions on national signing day despite having a little bit of an accident.

“We had a little wreck there toward the end,” Davis said. “It wasn’t my fault. Me and Mack were racing. I don’t know if he was looking at his phone or what, but we ended up bumping in to each other.”

Mack is five-star outside linebacker Lyndell “Mack” Wilson.

But he’s trying to keep an open mind

Ben Davis wants Auburn fans to know that the Tigers aren’t out of it. Yes they moved to his third favorite after his Alabama official, but he is on his Auburn official this weekend and they have a chance to come back.

And don’t count out Notre Dame either, the Irish sent five coaches to Davis’ house for an in-home visit this week and arrived in their equipment trailer.

Ben Davis will make his final decision at 10 a.m. on ESPNU.
