DBU just sent another star to the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns selected LSU cornerback Greedy Williams No. 46 overall in the second round of the NFL Draft on Friday night. Williams was hoping to become the 6th LSU defensive back taken in the first round in the past 9 years, but his wait lasted a bit longer than expected.
Williams arrived as a somewhat underrated 4-star recruit. He was ranked No. 20 among cornerbacks in his 2016 class, No. 219 overall. After redshirting, it didn’t take him long to start changing the narrative.
He shared the SEC lead with 6 interceptions in 2017 and entered 2018 widely considered the best cover corner in college football. Quarterbacks predictably stayed away from him, and while the stats slipped, the film explained why. Williams was a finalist for the Thorpe Award and a first- or second-team All-American, depending on the outlet.
Williams skipped LSU’s Fiesta Bowl victory over UCF. Some criticized the decision, but not his teammates. They knew his story, the struggles he endured just to get to LSU.

Williams hasn’t forgotten either. He told ESPN.com he can’t wait to reward his mom and take care of his family.
“That’s my motivation right there,” Williams said. “Just watching my mom struggle to get to work, to take care of four kids on her own. Just watching things like that as a kid just makes you want to be in this position where I’m at to be able to just give her the world.
“Give her anything she wants, because she definitely deserves it, how hard she worked for us.”
