Alabama is entering a new era at the quarterback position. Mac Jones is off to the NFL, where he’ll likely be a Round 1 pick on Thursday night.

In his place in Tuscaloosa is Bryce Young, who will enter his first year as the Crimson Tide starter on 2021.

So, what should we expect from Young in 2021? ESPN analyst Greg McElroy went as far as to compare Young to Oklahoma QB Spencer Rattler — one of the Heisman frontrunners this fall (via 247Sports):

“There’s no denying Bryce Young has the ability that you want,” McElroy said. “He actually reminds me of a slightly undersized Spencer Rattler. And I think by season’s end that’s who he might resemble.”

That’s a lofty comparison based on Rattler’s preseason expectations, but Young is a talented player who was one of the top recruits in the 2020 class.

We’ll see if he can live up to the confidence McElroy has in him this fall.
