Greg McElroy picked LSU to win the game against Texas A&M, and for the first half he looked like he might just be right. The Aggies were trailing 18-14 after they had multiple miscues. Quarterback Marcel Reed threw two interceptions in the first half, and the Aggies had a punt blocked that ended up giving the Tigers two more points.
However, Mike Elko and the Aggies made some halftime adjustments, and what happened after that was a 35-7 second half domination by the Aggies that led to the blowout 49-25 victory.
During an episode of ‘Always College Football’, McElroy talked about how he was in complete awe by what Texas A&M did in the second half.
“I picked LSU because I thought the entire game would look like the first half,” McElroy said. “Boom, Mike Elko tells basically everybody, if you don’t play better football, you’re going to let one slip away. The second half starts, and next thing you know it is 35-18. It’s done in all three phases. Total second-half domination. To outscore LSU 35-7 in the second half is ridiculous.”
Reed, who made the mistakes in the first half, fixed those and put together a spectacular performance. He finished with 202 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another 108 yards and two more scores.
The special teams also made up for their mistake in the first half as KC Concepcion took back a punt for a touchdown, while Terry Bussey started the second half off with a big kick return to get the Aggies rolling.
Texas A&M is in absolute control of its own destiny in both the SEC as well as making the College Football Playoff. The Aggies will be off next week before traveling to Columbia to take on the Missouri Tigers.
