Oklahoma and South Carolina square off this Saturday, and Greg McElroy has released his pick in the matchup.
Oklahoma is coming off its first loss of the season to Texas in the Red River Rivalry. Quarterback John Mateer made his return from injury, and it wasn’t pretty. Mateer totaled just 202 yards and 3 interceptions. The offense didn’t score a single touchdown and did not score at all in the second half. The Sooners will be looking to bounce back this weekend against South Carolina.
South Carolina is coming off a 10-point loss to LSU on the road. It’s been a rough season for the Gamecocks, but a win over Oklahoma could turn the season around. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers is the driving force behind this team, and while statistically he’s struggled, he can still take the game over and will need to do so in order to beat Oklahoma.
Greg McElroy believes these teams are eerily similar. They both struggle to protect their quarterback, have little to no run game, and their defensive fronts are the stars of each team. McElroy also mentioned that South Carolina is not an easy place for a rebound game that Oklahoma needs.
However, McElroy is going with Oklahoma to win this showdown.
“I’ll take Oklahoma in a bounce-back here, but it does not feel good laying the points on the road,” McElroy said. “I still think Oklahoma’s defense is legit. I also think this is going to be a game that goes way under the total of 44. So, I don’t see either offense having a ton of success in this matchup.”
We’ll see how McElroy’s pick fares on Saturday.
